City Attorney

The City Attorney's Office has a total staff of fifteen positions consisting of 8 attorneys and 7 support staff. The City Attorney's Office initiates all legal actions on behalf of the City, defends the City and its departments from all claims and lawsuits, and reviews all contracts for the City and its staff.


Responsibilities

Each of the Assistant City Attorneys is assigned to primary areas of service such as the Police or Utilities Departments, civil litigation, employment law, contracts, franchise and land use issues. Staff attorneys sit with the City Council, Planning Commission and Board of Public Utilities at their meetings, and provide legal advice to all other boards and commissions on an as-needed basis.
