Lee Pierce Candidate Statement
My name is Lee Pierce and I’d be honored if you would please take time to read this short letter of introduction – even if we have met before. My aim, in this article, is to give you a brief overview of my qualifications to serve as your District 2 City Council Representative, tell you why I have chosen to seek re-election to the Council and tell you what I believe are the most critical issues facing our City in this election cycle. Finally, I will ask for your help and your VOTE!
First, my qualifications for this office include serving as Vice Mayor, City Councilman and Planning Commissioner, City of Santa Rosa; Chairman, Sonoma Country Blue Ribbon Committee on Civil Service Reform, Chairman, Sonoma County Private Industry Council (2 consecutive terms) and Rotating Chair, Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE) Personnel Commission for Classified Employees. I have also held various private sector business ownership and executive level management posts, as well as having served as a Board Member and / or volunteer for various non-profit agencies and community-based organizations.
I am running for office because, not only do I feel my background, passion for serving my community and professional preparation sufficiently qualify me for the District 2 seat on the Santa Rosa City Council, but I am also running to give voters a choice - a choice that respects the deficits in City leadership among ethnic minorities, young adults and women in particular. What are the most critically important issues that will confront this newly constituted district-based City Council? At the top of the list will likely be whether or not councilmembers can manage to keep the City’s overall best interests in mind while serving at the pleasure of their individual districts. A challenge that plays directly to my strengths and passion to serve. I hold a degree in Human Relations and Organizational Behavior from the University of San Francisco (USF). Based upon input from District 2 residents, local elected and appointed officials and other candidates, affordable housing, homelessness, livable wages, accessible mental healthcare, deferred maintenance of streets and roads topped most of our lists of concerns. As our wild fire recovery continues, I am excited to have this historic opportunity to work with you. My vision for Santa Rosa’s future is a stronger, more resilient, safer, more inclusive, more just and more economically-prosperous City than ever before! If you share this vision, my name is Lee Pierce and I humbly ask for your vote on November 6, 2018 or on your “vote-by-mail ballot” upon receipt.
My sincere Thanks!
