For the last four years, I’ve given everything I have to this city. Through three wildfires, power shutoffs, and COVID-19, our city has been tested by one crisis after another. And each time, Santa Rosa has risen to the challenge. In the face of unimaginable trauma, our neighbors have worked together to rebuild what we’ve lost and to help one another find their way back home. And while I know the challenges we face seem daunting – intractable homelessness, a high cost of living, systemic inequality, economic recession (to name a few) – I know that there is nothing wrong with Santa Rosa that can’t be fixed by what’s right.

Over the last four years, we raised the minimum wage, reached an agreement to relocate the Bodean asphalt plant, fought for the Jennings Crossing, became a world leader in tackling climate change, and built hundreds of affordable housing units. As a Councilmember, I’ve served on our long term finance, rebuild, open government, climate action, and cannabis committees. Regionally I serve on the Sonoma County Transportation Authority, SMART, the Regional Climate Protection Authority, Mayors and Councilmember Legislative taskforce, Sonoma Clean Power, and Groundwater Sustainability Agency. Finally, statewide I’m the Vice Chair of the California Environmental Quality committee.

If re-elected, I’ll keep fighting for better regional diversity in our homeless services – it’s a communitywide problem and needs a communitywide response. We can’t keep asking the same few neighborhoods to shoulder the entire burden. I’ll keep pushing to reform the mall, get a grocery store downtown, and build out our bike and pedestrian infrastructure to create a welcoming, vibrant economic core.

I’m the only City Councilmember in the County who holds frequent open office hours, and I’ll keep doing so to welcome everyone to sit and talk about the issues that matter most to them and their neighbors. I will keep pushing forward on climate and fire resiliency, support our businesses and families by expanding childcare services, and work towards universal pre-k for our kids. I’ll fight hard to rebuild our budget reserves and address our long term deferred maintenance and pension liabilities. Finally, we’ll thoughtfully resolve the tension between our need for housing and the preservation of our historic neighborhoods.

I love this city. It’s where I was born and it’s where I want to raise a family. I’m not blind to the challenges but I’m inspired by the people.

I’m proud to be supported by the Democratic Party, Congressman Mike Thompson, Senator McGuire, Supervisor Lynda Hopkins, every member of the Santa Rosa City Council, and over 100 of your neighbors – and I would be honored to have your vote as well.
