Household & Business Recycling
The Sonoma County Waste Management Agency (SCWMA) is a joint powers authority whose mission is to implement waste diversion programs as required by State law AB939, (also known as the California Integrated Waste Management Act). This state law requires each jurisdiction in California to divert at least 50 percent of its waste away from landfills, whether through waste reduction, recycling or other means. SCWMA's job is to inform local residents and businesses of ways they can help reduce, reuse and recycle their solid waste and properly dispose of hazardous materials. A hotline is provided to answer questions about waste reduction and recycling. Messages or questions can be left at any time and your call will be returned. Call the Eco-Desk hotline at 707-565-DESK (3375).
For more information about residential or business recycling to the Sonoma County Waste Management Agency website.
Beginning July 1, 2012, all businesses and public entities in the State of California that generate four cubic yards or more of waste per week and multi-family units of five or more are required to recycle. The purpose of the law (AB 341) is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by diverting commercial solid waste to recycling efforts.
For more information about AB 341 and how you can implement recycling at your business or multi-family home, please contact the Sonoma County Waste Management Agency at Eco-Desk 707-565-3375 or by visiting the recycle now website.
