Community Empowerment Plan
The City of Santa Rosa unveiled a proactive plan to address Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) policies and practices through a strategic process guided with community input – the Santa Rosa Community Empowerment Plan. The overall goal of the Plan aims to improve the community’s relationship with and trust in the City of Santa Rosa, including the Police Department.
Community Listening Sessions
An open dialogue with the community plays an important role in the ongoing strategic efforts of the Santa Rosa Police Department. Within the first 90 days of his appointment to Chief of Police, Chief Rainer Navarro invited the public to attend one of five Community Listening Sessions. Additional Community Listening Sessions will be scheduled via the Community Empowerment Plan.
Coffee with a Cop
Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the Department’s work in our neighborhoods. Last year, SRPD held four events throughout the City to connect with different neighborhoods.
Community Police Experience
The Community Police Academy is designed to educate the public about Department policies, procedures, and the nature of police work in a 6-week course. Last year, attendees were introduced to the local criminal justice system and given a hands-on opportunity to learn about: patrol procedures, criminal investigations, narcotics, firearms, defensive tactics, outreach and engagement, and community-oriented policing.
Youth Community Police Experience
The Youth Community Police Academy teaches kids, ages 14 – 18, about the local criminal justice system and gives them a hands-on opportunity to learn about: patrol procedures, criminal investigations, narcotics, firearms, defensive tactics, outreach and engagement, and community-oriented policing.
Shop with a Cop
Each holiday season, SRPD accompanies children from the YWCA Women’s Shelter, Valley of the Moon Children’s Home and Community Action Partnership, to shop at Target. Each child was given a $110 gift card to purchase toys, clothes, and other items. After shopping, SRPD Command Staff made and served breakfast to the participating children and their families.
