Special Services Division
Duties & Responsibilities
The Special Services Division is overseen by Captain John Cregan. It has among its primary functions the follow-up of serious crime, support of field policing efforts and initiation of proactive enforcement programs. Division personnel are also assigned to five regional investigative task forces. The level of investigative activity required to manage current caseloads continues to rise there has been an increase in reported serious crimes. Ongoing legislative mandates, societal expectations and law enforcement interests require that the investigation of crime be more thorough, complex and resource intensive than ever before.Bureaus
The Special Services Division is comprised of two bureaus: The Investigations Bureau and The Support Bureau.-
Drug Hotline
The Drug Hotline was established as a means of providing the public with the opportunity to anonymously report drug and gang activities in their neighborhoods.

Investigations Bureau
The Investigations Bureau is part of the Special Services Division and has several teams.

Domestic Violence / Sexual Assault Investigations
The Domestic Violence / Sexual Assault (DVSA) Team investigates: Child sexual abuse and molestation, Adult felony sexual assaults, and many other crimes.

Forensic Team
The Forensic Team maintains the Identification Laboratory and perform tasks and duties associated with fingerprint analysis and identification, and assist in processing crime scenes on complex cases.

Narcotic Investigations Team
The Narcotic Investigations Team works in an undercover capacity to investigate significant drug trafficking, transporting, manufacturing and sales cases.

The Property Crime Investigations Team is primarily responsible for investigating theft related crimes.

The Violent Crime Investigations Team (VCI) conducts detailed investigations of violent felony offenses in order to identify criminals and bring them to justice for the protection of the community.

Personnel Services Team
The Personnel Services Team is responsible for recruiting, testing, and hiring all department personnel, as well as conducting in-depth employee candidate background investigations.

The Training Team is responsible for managing and providing training to all department employees; and ordering, issuing, repairing, and tracking all department issued equipment.
