Responsibilities

The Fleet Management Section is responsible for the replacement and maintenance of vehicles and equipment owned by the City of Santa Rosa. The Fleet Section has its own Parts Room and also manages a pool vehicle (rental) fleet. Body and paint work, major fabrication, and tire repair are sublet to private vendors. Daily repairs range from minor (lube / oil) to major (engine / transmission replacement).

Team

The team of mechanics, service writers, and supervisors are highly-skilled with a diverse variety of vehicle types (Police sedans, SUV's, pickup trucks, vans, transit buses), heavy equipment types (ladder trucks, forklifts, diesel tractors, aerial and bucket trucks, asphalt rollers, backhoes, crane trucks, graders, street sweepers, Jet-Vac, trailers) and fuel types (gasoline, diesel, electric, hybrid, compressed natural gas, propane).

The Fleet Maintenance team prides itself on continued improvement and staying current with the evolving automotive and truck industry.  Our team carries an assortment of licenses and certifications so we can provide our customers with the highest quality service.  The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) has been providing a nationally recognized automotive and truck repair certification program since the early 1970s.  The Fleet Maintenance division has a combined total of 13 individuals between three classifications (Equipment Mechanic I, Equipment Mechanic II, and Equipment Service Writer).  Currently, those 13 individuals possess a combined total of 153 valid ASE certifications.  Even more impressive is that each Fleet Maintenance team member holds a balance of automotive and heavy truck-based certifications.  This is just one of the many ways the Fleet Maintenance team continues to provide the best value and highest quality repairs for our customers.
