Finding a Unit

You are expected to find your own housing. You may move to a new home or you may stay where you are. In either case, the owner must be willing to participate in the program, and the home must:
  • Meet Housing Quality Standards, (physical and safety standards)
  • Afford the family enough space to avoid overcrowding, and
  • Rent for no more than the rent amount that is permitted.
If you want to lease the unit, you should explain the Section 8 Housing Assistance Payment Program to the owner. In this packet is an Owner Information Brochure and a copy of an addendum and contract. This material should answer most of the owner's questions. If the owner has questions you cannot answer, refer him or her to the Housing Authority's Section 8 staff, at 707-543-3300.
