Arbor Day Tree Planting Party

Saturday, March 11, 2023

Join us at this FREE family-friendly event to recognize Arbor Day and Luther Burbank's Birthday! Help us plant trees in the park!

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time is now. -Chinese Proverb

Bring your family and celebrate Arbor Day at our community tree-planting party and park beautification event. Learn about what makes trees important to our natural and urban environments, and what makes Santa Rosa a Tree City USA! Arbor Day is the birthday of the late famed botanist and Santa Rosa resident Luther Burbank.

Details

The Arbor Day event is part of our Park-A-Month volunteer program, in which a different park each month is spruced up by neighborhood and community volunteers. Families are welcome. Trees, tools and refreshments are provided and Arbor Day attendees have the opportunity to win a tree seedling and other special gifts! Wear sturdy shoes for possible muddy conditions. This is a rain or shine event -- trees like the rain!

Location

Northwest Community Park (2880 West Steele Ln., Santa Rosa)

About California's Arbor Week

National Arbor Day is the last Friday in April, but many states observe Arbor Day on different dates according to their best tree-planting times. California's Arbor Day is actually a whole week! A State resolution in 2011 proclaimed March 7-14 as California Arbor Week. The celebration purposely coincides with Luther Burbank's birthday (born on March 7, 1849), because of his contributions to California's natural and agricultural splendor. California Arbor Week is a chance for people of all ages to learn about, plant and celebrate trees.
