ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Summerfield Road Improvement project is coordinating installation efforts with the City's Pavement Preventative Maintenance (PPM) program. Each year the PPM applies a slurry seal application to the surface layer to a select number of arterial streets in good condition to keep them in good condition. Beginning in September 2021, crews will slurry seal Summerfield Road, Bethards Drive and a portion of Hoen Avenue. Prep work is currently underway with ADA standards curb ramp installation and crack sealing.
PPM involves removing all striping from the road prior to applying the slurry seal. Once the slurry seal has been applied, the striping will be re-applied using the proposed striping conditions as seen in the second image below. The proposed striping condition will allow for expanded bike lanes from 5-foot to 7-foot width, buffered 9-foot spacing between vehicles and bicycles, reduced vehicle travel lanes with center turn lane, and improved crosswalk crossings.
