Autumn is almost here, which means the kids are back in school…OR ARE THEY? Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks has been working hard coming up with solutions to the COVID-19 distance-learning challenge! We are proud to offer a brand-new program designed to provide a safe and fun experience for your child, while also helping to enhance your child’s education through distance-learning support.
Join us beginning August 24th for the first of two, seven-week sessions to be held at Steele Lane Community Center and the Finley Community Center Complex. Participants ages 6 to 11 will join learning hubs of up to 12 youth each and designated staff, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. They’ll have their own dedicated room with powerful WIFI to support their video classroom meetings and will receive staff assistance to help them with their more challenging subjects and projects*. Then, when your kids are not learning in their online classroom meetings or completing their homework, they will have a ton of fun participating in all sorts of arts, crafts, hiking, games, stories, movies, swimming and much more! Each site has access to a nearby park for fun outdoor activities.
School of Rec is designed in part by a veteran teacher of 26 years with input from parents, teachers, and school principals. It promises to provide a supportive educational environment with just the right amount of fun!
*Participants must bring earbuds and a functional WIFI-capable Chromebook, laptop or tablet (IPAD).
About Learning Hubs
Groups will be comprised of up to 12 children, with staff assigned just to them, and will stay together throughout the session. Family members remain together and may make one friend request. While we plan to inject some fun into the distance-learning process, we will have fun safely with COVID-19 precautions firmly in place – including facial coverings as required, social distancing, rigorous sanitation and safe hygiene practices. We are closely following all CDC protocols and Sonoma County health orders to present these programs for our Santa Rosa community.
