*EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH IN EFFECT SATURDAY (9/5) TO MONDAY (9/7)*
The National Weather Service (NWS) has forecasted a long duration heat wave will impact the region from 11AM SATURDAY, 9/5 THROUGH 9PM MONDAY, 9/7. Hot conditions are forecast with highs in the 90s for Santa Rosa with overnight lows in the upper 50s to 60 degrees. For Santa Rosa, the forecasted weather conditions are currently considered a Low to Moderate Heat Risk Event by the NWS. The City of Santa Rosa will continue to monitor the conditions over the next several days and will activate a cooling center based on factors such as day and night time temperatures and the level of Heat Risk.
When the temperatures rise this weekend, residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
Please also avoid activities during peak heat hours that could potentially spark a wildfire including mowing or trimming dry grass after 10am when it’s excessively hot and dry.
