[ARCHIVED] Current and Upcoming Weather Events

News Flash_NWS Weather Events

There are a series of weather events being tracked by the National Weather Service (NWS). Below is information on current and upcoming events in which weather alerts have been issued by the NWS.

Fire Weather Watch upgraded to Red Flag Warning and is in effect from 11 PM Monday (10/19) through 8 AM Wednesday (10/21)

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the North Bay Mountains beginning Monday (10/19) at 11 PM to Wednesday (10/21) at 8 AM. A period of gusty offshore winds and dry conditions will develop across the North Bay mountains Monday night through Wednesday morning. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO LIMIT OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES THAT COULD SPARK A WILDFIRE.

* AFFECTED AREA:  North Bay Mountains.

* WIND:  North to northeast 10 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Winds will be stronger overnight. Locally stronger winds are possible over the higher ridges and peaks.

* HUMIDITY:  Daytime humidities in the 12-20% range with poor overnight recoveries in the 20-30% range.

* HIGHEST THREAT:  Mountains of Napa County and northeastern Sonoma County.

* IMPACTS:  Any fires that start will likely spread rapidly due to the combination of dry fuels, gusty north-northeasterly winds, and low humidities.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:  A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Potential Third Fire Weather Event Next Weekend

A potential third burst of gusty offshore winds is possible late in the weekend into early next week. This may bring a compounding drying effect to already extremely dry fuels. Though confidence is much lower given the early forecast, Saturday night (Oct 24) into early next week has the potential to be the strongest of the three and over a broader area.
