It’s a VERY Dry Year – Reservoirs Reach Historic Lows
The Russian River Watershed, the source of our community’s water supply, is experiencing a second consecutive year of severely below-average rainfall. As a result, water supply levels at Lake Mendocino and Lake Sonoma are at historic lows.
While state officials have yet to officially declare a drought, hydrologic conditions are more severe than the drought years of 2013 through 2014.
Santa Rosa Water anticipates voluntary water conservation measures to be adopted by our region and there is a potential for mandatory measures as well.
Santa Rosa Water, in close coordination with Sonoma Water and our regional partners, is closely monitor water supply conditions locally. To learn more about where your water comes from, visit: sonomawater.org
It is critical that we all do our part to save water. Santa Rosa Water is part of the Sonoma-Marin Water Saving Partnership, that has recently launched a dry weather outreach campaign. Santa Rosa Water also offers a variety of WaterSmart resources. This includes tips, free water-saving devices, rebates, and more.

Santa Rosa Water is here to help
Let’s all do our part to preserve our precious water resources by working together to find WaterSmart solutions for our region this winter. Our WaterSmart experts recommend:
Turn OFF Your Irrigation System.
Give your irrigation system a rest over the winter and save precious water. Your plants don’t need irrigation during cold weather and shorter days.
Request a WaterSmart Check-up Kit.
Your free WaterSmart Kit includes everything you need to measure the efficiency of your faucets and showerheads, test your toilets for leaks, and arrange to receive free water saving devices delivered safely to your door. Request a do-it-yourself Kit by emailing [email protected] or calling 707-543-3985.
Find & Fix Leaks.
Leaking toilets can waste about 200 gallons of water every day. That’s like flushing your toilet more than 50 times for no reason! Request free dye tabs to test your toilet for leaks and learn more about finding and fixing leaks HERE
Install Free WaterSmart Devices.
Showerheads, kitchen and bathroom sink aerators, and hose-end shut off nozzles are available upon request. Making simple changes, like replacing aerators, can save about 460 gallons of water per month. Request free aerators, showerheads, and hose-end nozzles by emailing [email protected] or calling 707-543-3985.
Choose WaterSense Fixtures and Appliances.
When replacing faucets, showerheads, toilets, clothes washers, and dishwashers, be sure to choose WaterSense labeled product. To learn more about WaterSense products, visit epa.gov/WaterSense.
