[ARCHIVED] Local Transit Agencies Resume Fare Collection

Transit Fare Collection Resumes

Local Transit Agencies Resume Fare Collection February 1, 2021

Santa Rosa CityBus, in coordination with Sonoma County Transit (SCT) and Petaluma Transit (PT), will resume fare collection on fixed-route and paratransit services effective Monday, February 1, 2021. Passenger fares were temporarily suspended in March 2020 to ensure safe social distancing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

CityBus, SCT, and PT in compliance with the Sonoma County Health Order, have taken steps to ensure fare collections and front-door boarding can resume in a safe manner that includes installation of protective barriers between drivers and boarding passengers to reduce potential exposure. Current safety measures will remain in place such as increased sanitizing, social distancing through reduced on-board capacity, and mandatory face coverings worn by passengers and drivers.

Fares and Discounts
CityBus, SCT, and PT now offer 20% discount for qualifying low-income adults age 19-64 as part of the NEW Clipper START program. Clipper Start is a Bay Area program that provides up to 50% fare discounts on most public transit systems in the Bay Area, including Golden Gate Transit, and SMART. Riders can learn more and apply for the program at clipperstartcard.com

CityBus, SCT, and PT will continue to offer fare discounts for seniors and people living with disabilities. Santa Rosa Junior College students and youth will continue to ride free of charge with qualifying ID. U.S. Veterans may continue to ride free on CityBus and SCT. For more details on fares, discounts and passes, call or visit the agency websites below.

Petaluma Transit information can be found by visiting Petaluma Transit or by calling 707-778-4460.

Face Coverings are Mandatory
All Transit and Paratransit passengers are required to wear a face covering in order to comply with the Sonoma County Health Order. The Health Order also gives the bus drivers the ability to refuse admission to riders who fail to wear face coverings. Bus drivers will enforce the Health Order to protect the health and safety of drivers and passengers. “Face covering” means any fabric or cloth that covers the mouth and nose. The face covering can be made using household items (including scarves, bandanas, t-shirts, sweatshirts, towels, turtlenecks, or other fabric), can be sewn by hand, or factory-made. Further guidance on face coverings is available from the California Department of Public Health.
