The team with the Homeless Encampment Assistance Program completed closure and clean-up of encampments at the 5th, 6th, and 9th street highway underpasses during the week of April 13, 2021. This followed extensive outreach in which 54 individuals were contacted and 22 enrolled to receive homeless services, of which 13 initially accepted placements at the City’s Sam Jones Hall Homeless Shelter. Efforts will continue to further facilitate assistance for homeless community members, including those who may have moved to other areas of the City. Following closure of the encampments, the Debris Response Team removed 95 cubic yards of debris from the public right of way. HEAP protocols and the restrictions of a preliminary court injunction were followed throughout the process.
