Community Meeting on May 13 to Discuss Project Updates and Traffic Detour Planned for Chanate/Mendocino Area Sewer Replacement Project
Effective May 17 and continuing into September 2021, westbound traffic will be detoured on Chanate Road between Terra Linda Drive and Mendocino Avenue as part of the City of Santa Rosa’s North Trunk Sewer Replacement project in the Chanate Road and Mendocino Avenue area. This detour will allow for the installation of a large sewer pipeline under Chanate Road that will upgrade and improve performance of the existing collection system.
The traffic detour will re-route westbound traffic on Chanate Road north onto Parker Hill Road, then southwest onto Fountaingrove Parkway, continuing to Bicentennial Way/Mendocino Avenue. During the detour, one-way travel in the eastbound direction of Chanate Road will remain open.
The City of Santa Rosa understands that this detour may cause an inconvenience to many – however, it is necessary to upgrade and relocate sections of aging, inefficient, or inaccessible sewer pipelines under Chanate Road and away from Paulin Creek. The detour schedule is subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.
Neighbors and others who are interested may attend a Virtual Community Meeting/Project Update, to learn more about the ongoing construction activities, detours, access during emergencies or PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoffs, and more. There will be a Q&A session at the end of the presentation where you are encouraged to ask any questions regarding the project or traffic detour.

The Chanate/Mendocino Area Sewer Replacement Project involves the North Trunk Sewer Main which is a major pipeline that collects sewer flows from smaller sewer collector mains serving the Chanate/Mendocino area of northeast Santa Rosa. It consists of relocating and replacing sections of aging, inefficient, or inaccessible sewer and water pipelines, many of which are reaching the end of their useable life. The project includes significant construction in the area, which affects neighborhoods, businesses, and commuter traffic flow. The City encourages motorists to avoid the area during construction, if possible, and is grateful to all affected motorists and residents for their patience and understanding.
