[ARCHIVED] Building Permit Process Delays Expected Through Summer

CivicPlus_NewsFlash_Inspection Delays.jpg

High influx of multifamily development, the summer start of construction season, and staff augmentation will temporarily create longer turnarounds on inspection times.

Due to a higher-than-normal workload for City staff, residents are being advised to expect delays in permit processing this summer. In the short term, the City's Planning & Economic Developement Department can not guarantee normal turnarounds for permit review due to a high number of inspections for new development as well as staff augmentation from the expiration of the City’s third-party contract for the Resilient City Rebuild Center.

In addition to higher than normal construction occuring throughout the City, on July 31, 2021, the staff augmentation contract for expedited entitlments, plan reviews and next day inspections will end for the Tubbs Fire Rebuild. This will impact expedited turnarounds on plan reviews and the 5-, 10-, or 15-day turnarounds will not be guaranteed. Inspections will be provided as scheduling allows, with current lead times for inspections being up to 10 business days. Certain projects in the Resilient City combining district (-RC) may require Planning entitlements (Hillside Development Permit and/or Design Review) as a result of amendments to the -RC regulations effective January 1, 2021 (see Section 20-28.100). Planning review can take a minimum of 6 weeks.

People asking for a swifter review can request building plan review or building inspection through a third party, using the City’s form and guidelines. If you do have a project that requires permitting or City review, please book an appointment onilne using the City's QLess system.
