City of Santa Rosa’s 2021 Neighborhood Street Pavement Rehabilitation Schedule Now Published

Slurry seal application on select neighborhood streets to be completed between July 26 and August 6

The City of Santa Rosa will complete slurry seal application on select neighborhood streets to rehabilitate and maintain pavement surfaces between July 26 and August 6. The streets selected to receive this maintenance in 2021 and the schedule for when the treatment will be applied to each street are now published on maps at srcity.org/SlurrySeal.

Slurry seal is a cost-effective pavement surface treatment meant to extend the life of a roadway and must be applied before potholes and broken surfaces emerge. Streets in a further deteriorated condition must be repaired with a more costly asphalt overlay or reconstruction. Each year, the City selects streets to receive slurry seal based on the condition of the pavement identified by the City’s Pavement Management Program. The streets are then grouped and scheduled by neighborhood area for efficient application.

Each street receiving slurry seal treatment, will be closed from approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the date of its scheduled slurry application. At the end of each day, City personnel will determine if a street is safe to drive prior to reopening the street to traffic. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians should avoid crossing the wet slurry. Driving on wet slurry poses a safety risk and may also cause damage by adhering to the vehicle. The City will install new street markings on streets surfaces once slurry seal work has concluded which will require some traffic control, but the streets will remain open to traffic.

Residents and businesses will be notified by mail in advance if their address is located on a street receiving the slurry seal application.

Additional Slurry Seal Projects 2021 for Neighborhood, Collector and Arterial Streets

Roseland Pavement Maintenance 2021 is anticipated to begin August 2021 and is expected to be completed in September 2021. Maintenance activities include crack sealing, localized asphalt repairs and pavement resurfacing along residential, collector and arterial streets. As part of the Roseland Annexation agreement, the City receives $6.2 million over a 10-year period from the County for roadway improvements. This project is phase two of approximately five phases expected to be complete in 2026.

Pavement Preventative Maintenance 2021 is planned for September through October 2021 to rehabilitate arterial streets in Southeast Santa Rosa.  This project will consist of performing preventative maintenance along Summerfield Road from Bethards Drive to Sonoma Avenue, Bethards Drive, and Hoen Avenue from Summerfield Road to Cypress Way. Once the slurry seal process is complete, modified striping will be re-applied to enhance access for walking, biking and driving as discussed during the Summerfield Road Improvement Project community meeting held on May 27, 2021.
