The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the North Bay Mountains which will be in effect from 12PM Friday (7/9) through 11PM Sunday (7/11). Hot daytime temperatures are expected in Santa Rosa during this period, however it is forecasted to be a Low-Moderate Heat Risk Event locally.
The warming trend will begin Thursday with further warming expected Friday and into the weekend. Expect hot daytime temperatures and poor overnight humidity and temperature recoveries. Additionally, our region has experienced an increase in recent fire activity, and so the community is urged to avoid activities that could accidentally start a fire.
Residents are also encouraged to be mindful of personal health during the heat:
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Stay out of the sun,
- Check up on relatives and neighbors who may need extra assistance.
- Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
- Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible.
NOTE: The City has plans for the activation of a cooling center in the event weather and humidity conditions reach the trigger points for their opening.
