With potentially heavy rainfall in the forecast, it is important that the community be rain ready. This means preparing your property for rain and staying alert. Intense periods of rainfall bring the potential for flash flooding and debris flows, especially properties located within or down stream of fire burn areas. Rain can also carry sediment and debris into our local storm drains that flow untreated into our local water ways.  

Be Prepared, Stay Alert 

To be prepared for the rainy season, start by identifying vulnerable areas on your property. Use erosion control techniques, such as installing wattles and rock bags, and clearing debris from creeks and drainages to reduce flooding. Free Sand and Bags Available 

Sand and bags are available to City residents, at no charge, that need to control rain run-off on their property. The sandbag filling station is located at the Municipal Services Center North located at 55 Stony Point Rd and is open 24/7 throughout the entire rainy season (not just during storm events). Residents must present an ID with a City of Santa Rosa address in order to access the sandbag filling station.  LEARN MORE 

Rain Ready Best Practices to Prevent Pollution

To protect our local waterways from pollution and prevent unnecessary flooding, clean up leaf litter and lawn clippings, remove debris from gutters, routinely sweep the street gutter, pick-up pet waste, and properly store garden products and household chemicals. Accumulation of any material in local waterways can impair water quality, wildlife habitat, recreation, and flood capacity. LEARN MORE
