If it is in the streets it can get to our creeks.  Awareness inspires action and simple actions have great impacts.  People can unknowingly affect local waterways through the improper handling and disposal of trash, debris and other materials swept, raked, or spilled on the ground or pavement.  With the potential to be transported by rain, potable water, or even wind into our local creeks, storm drains are all of “Ours to Protect.”

In an effort to help the community further understand the connection of our streets and creeks beautiful, blue labels are being installed on select storm drains throughout the city of Santa Rosa. We encourage community members to take a minute to read which creek the storm drain is connected to and think about the simple actions they can take to prevent pollutants from going down the drains and into our creeks.

Clean creeks are important. They provide vital fish habitat, recreation, and add to the beauty of our city. The storm drain system transports rainwater to local creeks, rivers, and the ocean.  All water and materials that enter the storm drain system are untreated. Learn more at streetstocreeks.org.
