Remote Automatic Weather Stations (RAWS)  

The Santa Rosa Fire Department (SRFD) has purchased Remote Automatic Weather Stations (RAWS) through a RAWS grant awarded by CAL OES. The stations will monitor local weather and provide weather data that assist land management and fire agencies various projects, such as monitoring air quality, rating fire danger, and providing information for research applications. SRFD’s staff will use this data to predict fire behavior and monitor fuels and environmental conditions. The data collected will allow the SRFD to identify potential wildfire threats within the city limits and prepare for additional preventative measures during high-threat conditions.   

 Wildland Danger Signs

It’s critical that the community is aware of the high fire threat. To help keep the community informed, the City will send out emergency warning notifications regarding the information obtained by the RAWS and other weather tools. Furthermore, we will begin using Wildfire Danger Signs and continue to publish information on our website, posts to multiple social media channels, and send out emergency notifications as needed. Our goal is for people who live, work, visit or commute in and around our Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) to recognize these signs and be aware of the current fire risk. The signs are designed for our local use and will be installed in these locations: Fountaingrove Parkway, Summerfield Road, Calistoga Road, and Sonoma Highway. The signs will have the standard Low-to-Extreme scale and will have additional messages during Red Flag Warning events.
