The good news is the October firestorm did little or no damage to most of Santa Rosa's many beautiful City parks and those parks and park amenities not directly affected by the fires may be enjoyed as usual. This, of course, cannot be said for Coffey Park, which is a total loss. Rincon Ridge, Fir Ridge, Frances Nielsen Ranch and Nagasawa Parks also sustained considerable damage. City staff are currently assessing the damage to landscaping, irrigation and park amenities such as playgrounds. Staff are working with state and federal authorities to establish a plan to remove any potentially hazardous conditions and to begin the process of replacing and restoring damaged areas and amenities. Some playgrounds or other park amenities in parks impacted by the fires may still be blocked with caution tape. These are not to be used at this time. Play equipment within City parks is cleaned on an on-going basis year-round and playgrounds closest to the fire zones are being given top priority. We are committed to opening all parks and park amenities to the community as soon as possible.
