[ARCHIVED] Zero Waste Holidays: Holiday Tree Recycling Options

Zero Waste Christmas Tree Composting

Happy New Year!

While some of your Holiday tree recycling options are no longer available, there is still time to dispose of your tree the Zero Waste way!

Curbside Residential Collection

  • For curbside tree recycling on regular collection days after January 6, 2023, please cut down unflocked trees free of all accessories and decorations to fit inside your green organics bin with the lid closed. Do not bag your tree!

Drop-off - Only One Day Left!

  • Santa Rosa residents may drop-off whole unflocked trees at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, 1350 Bennett Valley Rd. (Jockey Club entrance), Dec. 26, 2022 to Jan. 13, 2023, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thank you for doing your part to keep organic waste out of our landfills.

Remember, if it Grows, then it GOES, in your Green Bin or Home Compost Bin.

_______

As the holidays come to a close, remember to properly plan to have your holiday tree recycled the zero-waste way, by turning it into mulch or compost. Only real trees, without decorations, lights, stands, tinsel and flocking can be recycled and composted.

Here are Santa Rosa residents' options to recycle your holiday tree.

Curbside Residential Collection

  • Trees may be placed on your curb the night before your regular collection day from Dec. 26, 2022 to Jan. 6, 2023. Flocked trees will not be recycled. Trees over six (6) feet should be cut in half in order to fit in the compost cart.
  • For curbside tree recycling on regular collection days outside of the dates above, please cut down unflocked trees free of all accessories and decorations to fit inside your green organics bin with the lid closed. Do not bag your tree!

Drop-off

  • Santa Rosa residents may drop-off whole unflocked trees at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, 1350 Bennett Valley Rd. (Jockey Club entrance), Dec. 26, 2022 to Jan. 13, 2023, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Non-profit Whole Tree Pick-up

  • Call 707-565-3333 to make an appointment for pickup. Pickups will be available Dec. 31, 2022, as well as Jan. 1, 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2023. Call before Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, to make an appointment. The suggested donation for this service is $7 for trees less than 6 feet and $10 for larger trees.
