[ARCHIVED] Significant Traffic Delays Expected along Fulton Road for Paving

NF_Fulton Road Project

The southbound lanes on Fulton Road between Piner Road and Jenes Lane are scheduled to be closed beginning the week of April 10, weather permitting, for the concrete paving phase in the City of Santa Rosa’s Fulton Road Improvements Project. During this phase extensive traffic control measures will be in place while the road is reconstructed using the Roller-Compacted Concrete (RCC) process. The work is part of an overall plan to widen and rehabilitate one mile of Fulton Road between Guerneville Road and Piner Road.

Impacts to residents and motorists will include lane and intersection closures, periodically limited access to driveways, relocation of bus stops, and possible delivery delays. When possible, motorist should try to avoid the area during this time.

RCC application is a specialized concrete mixture that is compacting with rollers. RCC is a relatively new method used to pave roadways, offering the advantages of high-strength concrete while employing an implementation method similar to asphalt. Some of RCC’s benefits include an estimated lifespan of over 50 years, fewer potholes, lower maintenance costs, and the ability to withstand heavy loads in high traffic areas.

The City of Santa Rosa understands that the upcoming traffic control measures will cause an inconvenience and disruption to residents and motorists, however, this and other improvements on the Project are critical to providing the highest quality and long-lasting roadway, improved sewer and stormwater systems, accessible sidewalks, and other critical infrastructure in this area. The City encourages motorists to avoid the area during construction, if possible, and is grateful to all affected residents and motorists for their patience and understanding. The RCC work schedule is subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

The Fulton Road Widening Project that is approximately 38% completed, will widen, reconstruct, and rehabilitate one mile of Fulton Road between Guerneville Road and Piner Road, transforming it into an updated, four-lane regional/arterial street, as well as provide many other improvements. In addition to a new roadway, the Project includes Class II bicycle lanes and expanded, ADA-accessible sidewalks on both sides of the street, improved drainage facilities and stormwater quality features, plus enhanced aesthetics with drought-tolerant median and roadside plantings. The Project began in June 2022 and is expected to continue for approximately 18 – 24 months (all schedules are subject to change depending on weather, unanticipated circumstances, and seasonal access restrictions to creek areas).
