Caltrans began a project on Monday, April 3, 2023, to repave a half-mile section of Highway 12 between Brush Creek Road and Mission Boulevard in Santa Rosa. The work is part of a larger emergency contract involving pothole repair on state highways in Sonoma County.
While emergency funding limits the scope of work to pothole repair, the pavement condition on this section of Highway 12 warrants the repaving of the entire surface except for shoulders and turn pockets.
Caltrans began work on Monday, April 3, 2023. All work is being done at night. Caltrans should complete the paving work by the end of the Friday night shift.
Upon completion of the paving, Caltrans will restripe the lanes and replace the loop detectors in the pavement that were destroyed when the old pavement was ground away. Among other things, loop detectors sense the presence of vehicles stopped at traffic lights and send messages to the signal box, helping to expedite traffic flow.
Caltrans will also work at night while striping and replacing loop detectors.
