In celebration of Earth Day, three Sonoma County Public Transit Agencies are joining forces on April 22, 2023, to encourage residents and visitors to Go Green and ride fare-free. Hop on public transit on April 22, and ride fare-free with Santa Rosa CityBus, Petaluma Transit, and Sonoma County Transit.
Riding the bus is a positive step in the Green direction. However, public transit isn’t the only Green solution. Carpooling, walking, cycling, rolling, shifting to an electric vehicle, or shared mobility will benefit our communities on Earth Day and every day of the year.
Public transit is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions nationwide. This is why transitioning to an all-electric fleet by 2040 is important to reducing our green house gas production. Fortunately, the additional state and federal funding Santa Rosa Transit has received to date will enable CityBus to transition over half its fleet to electric buses by 2025. In December 2022, CityBus launched four new electric buses into our city fleet, with additional EV buses on order. The launch of our electric buses opens another phase in the city’s commitment to greenhouse gas reduction
Offering fare-free access provides an ideal opportunity for individuals to experience the benefits of public transit to reduce emissions by leaving single-occupancy vehicles at home.
Individuals unfamiliar with public transit are encouraged to hop on fare-free to experience the convenience and comfort of public transit on Saturday, April 22, 2023, in support of Earth Day. Ride Fare-Free to the Earth Day Festival in Santa Rosa or the Butter and Eggs Days Parade and Festival in Petaluma.
