Access to safe, stable affordable homes is critical to create strong, thriving, equitable communities. That's why during the month of May, the Santa Rosa City Council and the Santa Rosa Housing Authority are joining with community partners and experts in the field of housing locally and across the nation, in celebrating Affordable Housing Month and recommitting to the City's mission to  promote awareness, fairness, inclusion, and justice in housing. Visit the City's Affordable Housing Communities webpage for more information on affordable housing opportunities in Santa Rosa.

City Proclaims May as Affordable Housing Month

On May 9, 2023, Santa Rosa Mayor Natalie Rogers issued the following proclamation:

Proclamation-2WHEREAS, affordable housing is good for businesses, people, and the quality of life in the city of Santa Rosa; and

WHEREAS, our community thrives when all families have a place to call home; and

WHEREAS, the City of Santa Rosa and Housing Authority of the City of Santa Rosa have made affordable housing an important goal to be achieved by providing annual funding for the development of new units and are decreasing barriers to the construction and rehabilitation process; and 

WHEREAS, an adequate supply of housing types is necessary throughout the city in order to meet the needs of all economic segments of the city's population, as well as all demographic segments of the city of Santa Rosa's residents; and 

WHEREAS, the City of Santa Rosa is committed to safe, stable, and affordable housing for all its residents; and 

WHEREAS, Affordable Housing Month is a time to recommit to our mission to promote awareness, fairness, inclusion, and justice in housing; and 

WHEREAS, our thriving community is encouraged to build local support and recognize Affordable Housing Month, which supports the sharing of best practices, opportunities, and solutions to provide affordable housing that is the right of all individuals. 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that, I, Natalie Rogers, Mayor of the City of Santa Rosa, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim the month of May 2023 to be Affordable Housing Month and City Council supports citywide efforts in developing and sustaining affordable housing for the residents of Santa Rosa.

Pipeline of Affordable Housing Projects

The City's list of affordable housing projects currently in the pipeline tracks recently completed and pending projects in Santa Rosa, and includes the amount of local contribution and other funding sources to bring the projects to completion. Currently, the list includes 28 projects with a total of 1,252 affordable housing units which have been, or will soon be added to the city's affordable housing inventory. These new units will provide much-needed housing to Santa Rosans living on low incomes, including community members who are homeless, formerly homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, seniors and residents with special needs. A few of the most current projects of note include: 

Completed in late 2022

  • Linda Tunis Senior Apartments in NE Santa Rosa
  • Orchard Commons in NE Santa Rosa

Opening Soon - Projected Summer 2023

  • Caritas Homes Phase One in Downtown Santa Rosa
  • Laurel at Perennial Park in NE Santa Rosa (site of the former Journey's End Mobile Home Park)

Under Construction Now

  • Berto Place (Heritage Place) in NW Santa Rosa
  • Kawana Springs Apartments in SE Santa Rosa
  • Santa Rosa Avenue Apartments in SE Santa Rosa
  • South Park Commons in SE Santa Rosa (site of the former Bennett Valley Senior Center)
  • Stony Oaks Apartments in SW Santa Rosa
