The Santa Rosa Fire Department has continued to evaluate and implement ways to communicate with our community about the threat of wildfire and the need for heightened awareness during times of elevated fire risk and extreme fire weather. The messages are typically delivered through various channels that include media releases, social media and emergency warning notifications. Fire Danger signs are also another tool to communicate wildfire risks in a low tech, standardized way.
If you live, visit or commute in and around our wildland urban interface fire areas you will recognize these signs and be made aware of the current fire risk. The signs are designed for our local use and are located on Fountaingrove Parkway, Summerfield Road, Calistoga Road, and Sonoma Highway. The signs will have the standard Low to Extreme scale and will have additional signage to be added during Red Flag Warnings.
A Heat Advisory will be in effect for the inland portions of the Bay Area including ALL of Santa Rosa this weekend. With the changes in the recent weather, you will also notice the change on the scale from “low” to “moderate” on the fire danger signs.
With the heat this weekend, remember to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and never leave children and pets in vehicles. Please also avoid outdoor activities that could start a wildfire.
