On July 11, 2023, City Council, by resolution, accepted a grant award in the amount of $5 million from the California State Library Targeted State Grants for construction of the new permanent library within the Hearn Community Hub project. This grant funding may be applied towards project activities that benefit the construction of the new library in southwest Santa Rosa.
The Hearn Community Hub project is s six-acre site located on the south side of the Hearn Avenue and Dutton Avenue intersection. The City selected this location to develop for multiple public uses, such as a fire station, a public library, a multicultural community center, and a public pool and recreation center. The property was selected in part due to its proximity to neighborhood schools and projected residential growth in the area. It will also provide flexibility to the participating organizations to grow and thrive with the community.
Prior to accepting the State Library Grant funding, the City Council has authorized a total of $20 million towards the Hearn Community Hub Project. Of the $20 million, $10 million has been allocated from PG&E settlement funds and $10 million has been allocated from ARPA funds. More funds are needed to construct the Project and staff are continuing to research funding opportunities.
