[ARCHIVED] Groundbreaking Ceremony for Fire Station 5

NF_FS5 GB 07_2023

On July 21, Santa Rosa City staff, along with local, State, and Federal partners celebrated the long-anticipated groundbreaking for the Fire Station 5 Resiliency and Relocation project. Several dignitaries, including Santa Rosa Mayor Natalie Rogers, Congressman Mike Thompson, Assemblymember Jim Wood, FEMA Regional Administrator Robert Fenton, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development Marion McFadden and others were in attendance and spoke on the importance of this milestone event.

The new Fire Station 5 site, purchased from Keysight Technologies in April 2022 at a cost of $205,000, is located on a 2.11-acre site at the corner of Fountaingrove Parkway and Stagecoach Road. This new site for Fire Station 5 will maintain its location within the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), and this new location is strategically positioned to help withstand future wildfires by providing a better defensible space.

The new station will consist of an 8,690 sq.ft. single-story structure designed to accommodate up-staffing during critical fire weather and can be used as a command post for future emergencies.

The station will include environmentally friendly features such as:

  • Meeting LEED standard for environmentally responsible construction
  • Low Impact Development (LID) for on-site storm water retention
  • Rooftop photovoltaic solar system
  • Electric vehicle charging stations at parking areas

The operations yard will provide space for apparatus circulation, and an emergency generator and fuel storage to sustain the fire station during extended power outages.

Fire Station 5 Resiliency and Relocation Project Design-Build contract is estimated to cost $18.2 million and is expected to be completed in spring/summer 2025.
