After 14 years of committed community partnerships, the City is poised to negotiate acquisition of 49 acres of Caltrans' 58 acres of undeveloped land which was previously intended to be an extension of Highway 12. The Caltrans property follows a 1.9-mile linear path from Farmers Lane/Highway 12 to Spring Lake Regional Park. The City Council has agreed to the conditions of purchase; however, the appraisal still needs to be approved by Caltrans and, ultimately, the California Transportation Commission (CTC). The City will also need to negotiate an easement agreement with Ag and Open Space over the property, a requirement to receive the matching grant funds for the acquisition. The CTC is the final step for approval of the sale, and the City is hopeful for a January meeting date.
