[ARCHIVED] New Revised Concept Design Plan for Hopper Avenue Corridor

NF_Hopper Meeting

The City of Santa Rosa is hosting its third and final virtual community workshop for the Hopper Avenue Corridor Improvement Project, where the public is invited to review and discuss the revised concept design alternatives for the redesign of this arterial roadway. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, starting at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. An online survey will be available to collect community feedback through September 13, 2023.

This workshop marks the conclusion of the follow-up process from the initial rounds of engagement that included two workshops and two community-wide surveys held in November 2022 and March 2023. During that time, residents had the opportunity to share their vision and inform the design decisions of the project team and discuss preliminary design alternatives with proposed improvements along the Hopper Avenue Corridor, based on previously received community feedback.

In this upcoming workshop, the design team will present a summary of the feedback gathered during the initial engagement stages and review and discuss the revised concept for Hopper Avenue. Meeting attendees will have the chance to provide comments on the revised concept design, and these comments will guide the final design decisions.

The revised concept plan for the roadway corridor improvements includes continuous buffered class ll bike lanes with flexible bollards, raised medians, concepts for tolerant and sustainable landscaping, and the potential for a neighborhood gateway. The plan also proposes pedestrian enhancements, such as curb bulb-outs at intersections, high visibility crosswalks throughout, and a planting concept with consistent tree placements that work with existing light pole spacing.

Construction on the Hopper Avenue Corridor Improvements Design-Build project is anticipated to commence in Fall 2024.

Hopper Avenue is a vital roadway connecting the Coffey Park Neighborhood to Highway 101. During the Tubbs Fire in 2017, Hopper Avenue experienced damage from the fire and post-fire debris removal process.

In July 2021, the Santa Rosa City Council unanimously voted to allocate a portion of funds received from the PG&E settlement agreement, associated with the Tubbs Fire, toward the recovery of Hopper Avenue between Highway 101 South entrance and Coffey Lane.
