On September 5, 2023, CityBus will begin installing a new bus tracking system. During this transition there will be reduced real-time bus location information available to riders and transit staff. CityBus expects this disruption to last through all of September.
Printed schedules, Google Maps, the CityBus website, and 511 will be the fastest and most accurate information resources for planning a trips during this transition. Unfortunately, our customer service staff will be experiencing the same level of disruption and may not have access to real-time bus arrivals until the installation is complete.
The CityBus team will post updates indicating a more exact date as to when real-time information will be available again and how to best access it. Your patience is appreciated as we work to improve your CityBus experience.
Why is CityBus changing its current bus tracking system?
The current vehicle tracking system is over 10 years old and in need of an update. After an extended review process, CityBus selected a new vendor to provide a system with a higher-level experience for riders and staff at a lower cost than the current provider. The new system will allow CityBus to improve the speed and accuracy of real-time bus location information to our riders.
This project will also include installation of real-time signs at 12 high-use bus stops on the city-wide routes. These signs will help answer the most common question of bus riders, “Where’s my bus?” For stops without real-time signs, riders can continue to use their smart phone to text or call to access real-time bus information.
The myStop app will no longer work once the new system installation is complete, however, CityBus will provide options for riders depending on their personal preferences. More information regarding accessing and using the new options will be made available as soon as possible. Once again, we appreciate your patience through this process.
