[ARCHIVED] Neighborhood Streets Initiative

Neighborhood Streets Initiative Project

The Neighborhood Streets Initiative is a resolution approved by the City Council in 2016. Street selection for this program is approved by the City's Community Advisory Board (CAB). The Neighborhood Streets Initiative is designed to invest directly back into our community neighborhood roads. Funding for this project cannot be used on non-arterial or collector streets, only neighborhood streets.

This year we are combining the Roseland Streets Overlay project with the Neighborhood Streets Initiative. Although these were separate projects they were almost identical in their scope of work. The funding for both projects was approved in 2016; the Neighborhood Streets Initiative for $3 million and Roseland Street Overlay for $648,000 respectively from the General Fund.

The two combined projects will resurface 11 city streets covering 2.35 miles with approximately 11,500 tons of asphalt concrete. The overlay is scheduled to begin August 4.

Overlay is a type of surface repair in which the deteriorated street surface is ground and removed prior to new hot mix asphalt concrete placement followed by a series of rolling and compaction. The street selections were based on the amount of deterioration on existing roadway surfaces. All existing striping and street markings will be reinstated, and all curb ramps within the project limits will be modified to meet the current ADA standards.
