Santa Rosa Water invites the media to attend activities planned for the Annual Creek Week Celebration occurring September 16-23, 2023. Creek Week encourages exploration and learning and inspires community members to protect our creeks. The City of Santa Rosa has more than 100 miles of creeks and 40 miles of creek trails, which are vital to providing flood protection, habitat for a wide variety of plants and animals, and recreation opportunities.
Santa Rosa’s annual Creek Week activities are planned in coordination with the U.S. EPA’s National Pollution Prevention Week and support the ongoing efforts of our Streets to Creeks education campaign. Creek Week is the perfect opportunity to remind community members that the storm drains in streets, parking lots, and other areas around town flow untreated directly to local creeks. The creeks in Santa Rosa flow to the Russian River and eventually the Pacific Ocean. Any material left outside can be transported into our waterways, such as a piece of trash sitting in the gutter, the remaining fertilizer lingering in a flower bed, the bacteria and pathogens from forgotten pet waste. The good news is there is a lot we can do to protect our creeks and Creek Week is the perfect time to learn how. Here’s the 2023 Creek Week Schedule of events:
