The Santa Rosa Avenue Corridor Improvements project is a Complete Streets approach to enable safe access for all users encouraging alternate modes of transportation. The corridor for this project is defined as the stretch of Santa Rosa Avenue between Sonoma Avenue and Maple Avenue. This project will add new and improve existing pedestrian, bike, transit, and vehicle facilities along this corridor.
Pedestrian improvements along this corridor include upgrading pedestrian curb ramps to current ADA standards and installing bulb-outs to increase pedestrian visibility to drivers while also shortening the crossing distance at crosswalks. Benches will also be added along this corridor as part of the streetscape improvements.
Bicycle improvements are one of the most significant additions as this project will close the gaps in the Class II bike lane network along Santa Rosa Avenue. In addition, inverted U-lock bike racks will be installed as part of the new streetscape improvements.
To further enhance the comfort level for multi-modal access along this corridor, vehicle lanes will be reduced to a single traffic lane in each direction. The vehicle travel lane reduction will allow transit movements to be prioritized in the corridor by providing space at the bus stop where a bus can pull over without blocking the traffic or bike lanes. Landscaped median will be placed along the center of the corridor.
Construction for the Santa Rosa Avenue Corridor Improvements project started in summer 2023 and is expected to be completed by the end of December 2023. However, the pavement surface treatment application is yet to be completed and this part of the project is weather dependent.
