The City’s 2023 Pavement Preventive Maintenance (PPM) construction project on arterial streets, located primarily in the downtown corridor, has been placed on winter suspension until summer 2024. The project is being winter suspended as the slurry application required for this project is weather dependent. Slurry seal treatment will not properly adhere to the pavement surface if the outside temperatures are too cold or moist.
When the project resumes as weather permits in 2024, it will again include the addition of bike lanes, lane reductions, and pavement restriping. This also includes the pavement restriping as identified in the Local Road Safety Plan.
Slurry seal is a preventive maintenance which involves applying an emulsified asphalt mixture, slurry seal, spread over the existing street surface. It helps protect streets from water penetration, provides a new surface with improved skid-resistance, and extends the overall life of the pavement. Slurry seal is part of the City's ongoing pavement maintenance program to help seal cracks and preserve the pavement of our streets.
