Pavement Preventative Maintenance 2018
Have you noticed the No Parking construction signs along Yulupa Avenue and Airway Drive? These two major arterials are part of the Pavement Preventative Maintenance Program (PPM). No Parking construction signs have been posted on Yulupa Avenue (Bennett Valley Road to Douglas Drive) and Airway Drive (Hopper Avenue to Piner Road) initially for PPM preparations and again for the slurry seal application. Next week crews will finish repairing the road surface in preparation for the slurry seal application scheduled for the end of the week. Vehicles are not permitted to park on the street during the slurry seal process. Please be mindful of the dates on the No Parking signs as we hope to avoid towing cars left on the street.
No Parking Dates and Locations:
(Weather Permitting)
Thursday, Oct. 4 – Southbound Lanes, Yulupa Ave and Airway Dr
Friday, Oct. 5 – Northbound Lanes, Yulupa Ave and Airway Dr
Saturday, Oct. 6 - Both Lanes (alternating), Yulupa Avenue only
Road work is scheduled to begin at 8:30am. Flaggers will be present during the slurry seal application process to aid drivers through the construction zones.
What is the PPM?
For the PPM, crews first repair arterial streets by removing road markings, applying crack sealing and asphalt dig-outs. An asphalt dig-out is the repair of localized failures in the asphalt, usually in the wheel path, which is accomplished by removing the top three inches of asphalt and replacing with new compacted asphalt. Once the repairs are complete, crews apply slurry seal as a preventative maintenance application which restores the surface of the roadway and extends the overall life of the pavement.
You may have noticed that the PPM Project is similar to the annual Slurry Seal project. Where PPM differs in scope from the annual Slurry Seal is that as the annual Slurry Seal focuses on extending the life of neighborhood streets, PPM focuses on repairing and extending the life of arterial streets.
