Update: Corporate Center Parkway Encampment

Tents - Apollo Way

Ongoing efforts continue at Corporate Center Parkway as part of the City’s Homeless Encampment Assistance Pilot Program, a multi-disciplinary team focused on a compassionate approach to addressing the health, safety and shelter needs of persons living in encampments, as well as to mitigate the impacts to surrounding communities. These efforts include increased outreach and engagement, enforcement, and removal of trash and debris, summarized below:

  • Outreach and engagement: Extensive outreach has been offered to the individuals occupying the area over the past few weeks. Catholic Charities’ Homeless Outreach Services Team (HOST) is actively working with individuals to develop transition plans which include temporary or permanent housing options. HOST reports engaging 115 individuals with 26 transitioning to shelter, one housed plus two in progress.
  • Enforcement: Police now have the ability to tow large RV’s identified through the vehicle abatement program. Those with the most egregious registration and septic violations are being prioritized for removal, subject to the capacity of the City’s towing vendors. Seven (7) large RVs have been removed over the past two weeks. Enforcement for tents in the roadway has increased and will continue.
  • Removal of trash/debris: Transportation and Public Works has been coordinating weekly clean-ups to mitigate public health and safety concerns. Approximately 200 cubic yards of trash/debris have recently been removed from the area.

While progress has been made over the past month, the City also recognizes growing concerns regarding a timeline for closure of the encampment as well as continued impacts to the community. We will continue to evaluate our approach in the coming weeks and provide updates to the community regarding next steps.
