The City of Santa Rosa is pleased to announce the opening of the new temporary Fire Station 5 located at 3480 Parkerhill Road, south of Fountaingrove Parkway. Firefighters began moving in equipment last week and will staff the station beginning Friday, December 21, 2018.
The temporary fire station was constructed following the October 2017 firestorm when Fire Station 5 was destroyed on Newgate Court during the Tubbs Fire. The Parkhill Road site was the former location of Fire Station 5 before closing in August 2015 when the station relocated to Newgate Court. The vacant Parkerhill Road station was also destroyed in the Tubbs Fires.
Station 5 firefighters and the station engine have been temporarily housed at Fire Station 1 (955 Sonoma Avenue) since October 2017. The City broke ground on the temporary fire station project in July 2018, and the construction of the temporary fire station was managed by the Transportation and Public Works Department. The station was designed to be functional and low-cost to maintain in the interim of constructing a permanent station.
“Public safety is our City’s top priority. The location of our temporary Fire Station 5 will help improve our response times to Northeast Santa Rosa,” said Fire Chief Tony Gossner. “It will also enable us to provide better coverage to Fountaingrove and Hidden Valley during the ongoing rebuilding and recovery of our community.”
The City of Santa Rosa continues to work on a plan for rebuilding a permanent fire station, including exploration of potential new site opportunities that will better meet the needs of the community.
