[ARCHIVED] Youth Recreation Program Scholarships Now Available

Youth Swim Lessons

City of Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks to provide up to $20,000 in recreation scholarships to local families in 2017.

Recreation program scholarships are now available for youth ages 18 and under through the City of Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks Department. The Department will provide a total of up to $20,000 in scholarship funds this year to families who qualify for financial assistance and desire to enroll in selected City programs.

Scholarships for the 2017 season may be used for youth swim lessons, summer tennis camp, Camp Yu-Chi, Doyle Adventure Camp and Lifeguard Training. Scholarships are available to families who qualify for financial assistance, and the funds substantially subsidize the cost of attending these programs. Scholarships will be distributed until funding is depleted.

To be eligible for a scholarship, families must live within Santa Rosa City limits or have children enrolled within the Santa Rosa City School District, and must show proof of receiving one of the following financial assistance benefits: social security supplemental or disability income, public assistance through the Sonoma County Human Services Department, free lunch assistance through local school, public assistance through the City of Santa Rosa Housing Authority or a Medi-Cal or Medicare benefits card.

The City of Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks Department offers youth scholarships beginning each year in March to local families in need. Scholarship amounts and the designated recreation activities that scholarships may be applied to vary from year to year and depend on available funds. Funds for the scholarship program are raised through the Department’s annual fundraising events, including the Scholarship Golf Tournament each September and the St. Patrick’s Day 5K each March, and from individual contributions received from donors throughout the year.

Scholarship applications and more information about the Scholarship Program may be found online here or by calling the Recreation & Parks Department at (707) 543-3737.
