[ARCHIVED] Fulton Road Detour Scheduled

Road Detour News Flash

Update: Fulton Road Reconstruction Project Detour Begins October 24 - Occidental Road to West Third Street.

About the Project

The final phase of the Fulton Road reconstruction work is scheduled to resume on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 with partial southbound lane closures from Occidental Road to West Third Street. On October 24, both southbound lanes will be closed to through traffic during roadway grinding and installation of locally sourced Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) pavement. A traffic detour plan will be in place with signs to direct southbound traffic around Fulton Road construction via West Third Street, Stony Point Road, and Occidental Road. This final phase will allow this important infrastructure project to be completed before the holiday and rainy season.

Construction will be conducted during daytime hours, Monday through Saturday; night work is not anticipated. Upon completion of paving and re-opening of southbound lanes, northbound lanes will be closed, and paving will commence. The paving project is anticipated to be completed by November 23, 2019, weather permitting.

Roller compacted concrete (RCC) pavement, originally planned for this project, had difficulty achieving the appropriate strength within the time required. The City and project contractor worked collaboratively on a solution to complete the roadway project this year. PCC pavement was proposed as the alternative material.

PCC pavement is a standard concrete mix requiring a slightly longer cure time than RCC (3 days, verses 1 to 2 days). Other than the longer curing time, the benefits of PCC are similar to RCC in that the material extends the lifetime of the roadway and reduces lifetime maintenance costs.

Drivers are advised to utilize alternate routes during construction hours, especially during commute hours to avoid delays. Residents and emergency vehicles will retain access to adjacent properties throughout the reconstruction project.

Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) has issued a public safety power shutoff (PSPS) warning for Wednesday afternoon (10/23) through Thursday (10/24) afternoon. No additional impacts to the project area or surrounding neighborhoods resulting from this expected power shutoff is anticipated.

This project is funded in part by Measure M and Senate Bill 1 (SB1).
