[ARCHIVED] Detour Plan for Fulton Road Project

Road Detour News Flash

Traffic Detour Plan Scheduled for Fulton Road Reconstruction Project

Street Lane Closures on Fulton Road from Occidental Rd to W 3rd St Scheduled for July/August

The Fulton Road Reconstruction Project - Occidental Road to West Third Street is scheduled to begin construction July/August 2019. During construction a traffic detour plan will be administered as both lanes of traffic will be closed in one direction.

Temporary detour signs will re-route traffic around the Fulton Road construction utilizing West Third Street, Stony Point Road and Occidental Road. Closures will be 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until that section can reopen. Once roadway reconstruction is completed in one direction crews will alternate the closure to both lanes in the opposite direction. Each directional lane closure is anticipated to take a minimum of three weeks to complete.

Changeable message signs are in place on Fulton Road alerting drivers to the upcoming project. When the construction start date is confirmed, the detour dates will be posted to the lighted signs.

During the directional lane closures on Fulton Road, drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible. If you must travel near the construction zone, pay close attention to the posted detour markers, taking special care navigating the traffic changes at night. Residents and emergency vehicles will retain access to local properties throughout the project.

This is the first pavement project using Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) Technology in Santa Rosa and the Bay Area. It is a pilot project that we hope will demonstrate cost savings, durability and resident satisfaction as RCC pavement is known to last longer than traditional asphalt pavement.

In addition to using the RCC technology, the Fulton Road Reconstruction project will also install fiber optic cable lines to improve traffic signal functionality, install new sewer and storm drain manholes, and update pedestrian ramps to current ADA standards. This project is funded in part by Measure M and Senate Bill 1 (SB1). It is estimated to be completed 16 weeks after construction begins.

The City of Santa Rosa reminds drivers to ‘Be Work Zone Alert’ and ‘Slow for the Cone Zone’.
