A message to 2017 fire survivors rebuilding in Santa Rosa

Rebuild Permit Center Front entrance with sign that reads "Recovering as one"

The City of Santa Rosa has been, and remains, 100% committed to helping fire survivors in our community rebuild following the 2017 fires. This message comes directly from your fellow community members, neighbors, and other fire survivors who also serve as your public servants supporting the community’s recovery every day. Remaining 100% committed to the effort doesn’t mean there won’t sometimes be bumps in the road – our community is navigating uncharted territory as we rebuild from unprecedented disaster. But your City’s commitment does mean that we will problem solve challenges with you throughout the process because we all want to get you back into your home as soon as possible while working within safety and compliance regulations.

With that said, we wanted to make sure you are aware of how to reach us for your rebuilding needs. For general rebuilding permit information, staff may be reached in several ways:

  • Email: rebuild@srcity.org
  • Call: 707-543-4649
  • Visit: 100 Santa Rosa Avenue, Room 6 (Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm; Appointments available, walk-ins welcome)

If you do come across an issue during your rebuilding process, please reach out directly to your local City rebuilding leadership staff to discuss that issue right away. Here is how to reach them:

  • Leo DePaola, Rebuilding Permit Center Manager
    707-543-4668/ ldepaola@srcity.org
  • Jesse Oswald, Chief Building Official
    707-543-3249/ joswald@srcity.org
  • Gabe Osburn, Deputy Director of Development Services, 707-543-3853, gosburn@srcity.org

Your contractor does control your property’s building permit and must be the one to schedule inspections through the permit process per state law. However, City staff have developed tools to help you closely track your permit through the rebuild process on your own. Look up your rebuild address at the following link to check on your permit’s status: srcity.org/2886/Parcel-Report-Search

You may also watch the video below for more information on the digital tools available to aid the rebuilding process:

Finally, a number of resource documents have been created to help guide fire survivors through various components of rebuilding such as landscape design requirements, obtaining temporary occupancy, and others – those documents can be accessed in the Document Library on the City’s Rebuilding website: srcity.org/rebuild

We are proud of the resiliency of our community and look forward to continuing to serve you. Thank you.
