We’ve had many recent questions about the City’s use of Nixle communications service. We want to confirm that Nixle is still working.
A few weeks ago the vendor did experience a temporary system-wide issue with their platform that caused a delay in subscribers receiving email Nixle notifications. The issue was resolved quickly, and the City resumed use of Nixle within 24 hours of the service interruption.
However, there have been other changes to Nixle that you should be aware of. Nixle is a contracted service provided by Everbridge a private company. Like other companies and services, this provider evolves and modifies its service offerings. Now, Everbridge only permits Nixle text message distribution to subscribers if: there is no email address affiliated with the account or the Nixle message is categorized as an “Alert.” Santa Rosa Police and Fire Departments will utilize the “Alert” category when sending messages for critical emergencies ONLY. You can modify your subscription preferences by logging in to your account at Nixle.com.
The City of Santa Rosa uses multiple notification and warning systems to make sure emergency alerts are delivered to the people who need the information – we do not rely solely on Nixle for emergency alerting.
