[ARCHIVED] Nixle Delays and Changes

News Flash_Nixle

We are aware of the significant delays many experienced in receiving Nixle email updates issued by the Santa Rosa Police Department last night regarding traffic information and updates related to unlawful activity following the protests in the downtown area. We have reached out to our Nixle service provider, Everbridge, to understand the reason for the delay and to ensure they are working toward solution. We understand the importance of timely delivery of critical information and will be doing everything we can on our end to ensure that the vendor resolves the issue. Frequent updates were also posted yesterday evening to SRPD’s Facebook page and to SRPD’s Twitter handle and are other good resources for ongoing updates during evolving situations.

A FEW THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT RECENT CHANGES IN NIXLE SERVICES PROVIDED BY EVERBRIDGE

Nixle is a contracted service provided by a private company, Everbridge. Like other companies and services, Everbridge evolves and modifies its service offerings. Now, Everbridge only permits Nixle text message distribution to subscribers if: there is no email address affiliated with the account, or the Nixle message is categorized as an “Alert.” SRPD and/or the Santa Rosa Fire Deparment will utilize the “Alert” category when sending messages for critical emergencies ONLY.

You can modify your subscription preferences by logging in to your account at Nixle.com. The City of Santa Rosa uses multiple notification and warning systems to make sure emergency alerts are delivered to the people who need the information. Learn more about the various ways the City will attempt to notify you in the event of a critical emergency at SRCity.org/KnowYourAlerts.
