About

Starting at a very early age, Memphis Roetter began asking his birthday party guests to make donations to the Early Learning Institute rather than bring him a give. The Institute had helped him early in his own life and he wanted to give back. The birthday gifts totaled $385 for the Institute during the first year that he asked for donations. On his fifth birthday, he decided to raise funds for the Redwood Empire Food Bank, and that year Memphis, along with Billy Barts from the food bank, provided over 700 meals!

Every birthday since then, and still continuing, Memphis has collected food donations and raised money for the Redwood Empire Food Bank. Here are just a few of his accomplishments: age six 5,335 meals donated; age seven 8,300 meals; age eight over 10,000 meals. Memphis’s fundraising totals now total over $63,000, and he has gathered 160,000 pounds of food for the food bank.

Here’s how Memphis has accomplished so much: Every birthday, and on most weekends, he has had a table in front of Olivers’ Market, as well as a collection site located in a local coffee shop for food and cash donations. In 2020, he could no longer “table” due to COVID-19, so he reached out through Instagram, Facebook, and Nextdoor and created the website memphisfooddrive.com. He also drove around Santa Rosa to pick up non-perishable donations.

Memphis, who is now 16, stated, “I know these are very tough times for many people, which is why it is so important to help others.”
