Coffey Park Holiday Parade - Strengthening Neighborhoods

Strengthening Our Neighborhoods

Nominated by

Tom Schwedhelm

Presented by

Jeff Okrepkie, City Council Member

In 2017, right before the holidays, the City of Santa Rosa endured the devastating Tubbs Fire. Inspired by the fire wreckage came the idea for the Coffey Park Holiday Parade. What began three years ago, with a small group of volunteers, as a little 24-car holiday parade in the Coffey Park neighborhood has grown into a beloved community event with over 80 cars! The idea behind this event was to bring a parade to people rather than the other way around. As one of the crew stated, "We do this because we love our community, and it brings out the little kids in us!" With the destruction of the Coffey Park neighborhood in the Tubbs fire, this was a way to share some joy. Every year, it has grown and added more fun and excitement. The volunteer organizers raise funds to help with decorations and other associated costs.

The community lines the streets in Coffey Park and cheers as friends and neighbors in lighted and decorated cars go by. Special guests have included many car clubs, police and fire departments, wine country balloons, the Grinch, and Santa. This sense of neighborhood and resiliency is something to be truly admired and honored!
